UDOIT 1.3 LTI
The Universal Design Online content Inspection Tool, or UDOIT (pronounced, “You Do It”) enables faculty to identify accessibility issues in their Canvas course content and methods to quickly remediate providing a more inclusive digital learning experience for students and course participants.
Tulane’s self-hosted, cloud-based UDOIT tool is available through your Canvas course menu. If it’s not already visible in your Canvas course menu, then you can enable UDOIT through your course settings.
- From the Canvas course menu, Click Settings
- From the Settings page, Click Navigation tab
- From the Navigation list, Click Enable for UDOIT and Save settings
What does UDOIT do?
UDOIT scans a course, generates a report, and provide resources on how to address common accessibility issues. UDOIT will identify “errors” and provide “suggestions” in your Canvas course associated with: Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, Files, Pages, Syllabus, and Module URLs. Additional accessibility issues like alt text for images, table headers, video captions and more are checked against WCAG accessibility standards. Using the scanned report results, instructors can make more informed decisions about course content usability and design factors impacting the overall student experience.
Where can I get more info about UDOIT at Tulane?
UDOIT LTI 1.3 is installed in Canvas and can be accessed by users in the course instructor (or similar) role in the course. Additional support is available through Tulane’s Office for Campus Accessibility and the Innovative Learning Center. Course instructors and designers can request a Digital Accessibility Consult to review the UDOIT report and apply the recommend changes to their Canvas course content. The accessibility improvements made in your course content today, can be applied to future courses; having an even greater impact on your students’ digital learning experience today and beyond.
